Afghanistan, May 16 -- World Food Programme warned that the large-scale return of migrants from Iran and Pakistan is worsening the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where millions already depend on emergency assistance.
Carl Skau, WFP's Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer said around 2.5 million people returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries over the past year, many arriving with no assets or basic means of survival.
Speaking during a visit to the Torkham border crossing, Skau said many returnees were born outside Afghanistan and now face the challenge of rebuilding their lives in a country struggling with deep economic and humanitarian pressures.
