Afghanistan, Oct. 8 -- Uzbekistan's State Security Service (SSS) says authorities have intercepted 48.5 kilograms of hashish and opium allegedly being smuggled from Afghanistan into the country through the Hairatan border crossing in Surkhandarya province.
According to the SSS, a Mercedes-Benz cargo truck entering Uzbekistan from Afghanistan was subjected to an intensified inspection at the Hairatan border customs post. Officers found 98 packages concealed beneath the floor of the truck's trailer. The packages contained 39.086 kilograms of hashish and 9.498 kilograms of opium, bringing the total weight to 48.584 kilograms.
