Afghanistan, June 11 -- After U.S. President Donald Trump vowed a "very strong" response against Iran on Wednesday, American forces launched a new wave of military strikes against targets in Iran early Thursday. The attacks come amid rapidly escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington following days of retaliatory military action.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation was defensive in nature and aimed at protecting American forces and interests in the region from Iranian attacks. Iranian officials have meanwhile signaled that Tehran remains prepared to respond to any further U.S. military action.
