Afghanistan, June 3 -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration does not want Afghan refugees stranded in Qatar to be forced back to Afghanistan and has held discussions with at least five countries about accepting them for resettlement.

According to Reuters, Rubio made the remarks during a meeting with U.S. lawmakers, saying several countries had expressed willingness to receive the refugees, although he did not identify them.

More than 1,100 Afghan refugees remain at the Al-Sailiya facility in Qatar after the Trump administration suspended the resettlement of Afghans to the United States.
