Afghanistan, May 23 -- Marco Rubio arrived in India on Saturday for a four-day visit focused on energy security, trade and defense cooperation, the US State Department said.

Rubio is expected to meet senior Indian officials to discuss expanding economic ties and increasing US energy exports as global markets face disruptions linked to tensions involving Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The US secretary of state said Washington is prepared to supply India with larger quantities of oil, liquefied natural gas and petroleum products to help offset supply shortages.
