Afghanistan, June 6 -- The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it shot down four Iranian attack drones over the Strait of Hormuz hours earlier, describing them as an immediate threat to maritime traffic in one of the world's most important shipping routes.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said the drones posed a direct risk to vessels operating in the region. The U.S. military added that it subsequently targeted Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Gorouk and on Qeshm Island to defend against what it described as the threat of further attacks.
"These attack drones posed an immediate threat to maritime traffic in the region," CENTCOM said.
