Afghanistan, March 25 -- US citizen Dennis Coyle has been released after a year-long detention in Afghanistan, with UAE facilitating his transfer and diplomatic efforts playing a key role.
The Taliban's foreign ministry announced the release of US citizen Dennis Coyle from detention in Kabul on Tuesday, March 24.
The decision followed meetings involving former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, a family member of Coyle, and the UAE ambassador to Afghanistan with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Taliban officials stated that Coyle's family had sent a letter to the group's leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, requesting clemency, and the supreme court deemed his prison term sufficient, leading to his release.
