Afghanistan, July 30 -- The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth up to $58.6 billion to produce Patriot missile interceptors, as Washington moves to replenish air-defence stocks amid increased demand linked to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that the agreement expands a previous one-year, $4.7 billion contract awarded in April into a seven-year procurement framework covering fiscal years 2026 through 2032.
The multiyear agreement comes as the Pentagon seeks to accelerate weapons production and rebuild US inventories after missile-defence systems have been used in military operations and supplied to allies, including Ukraine.
