Afghanistan, Aug. 11 -- Bamyan and Daikundi have become Afghanistan's first provinces to achieve open-defecation-free status, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said Monday, marking a major milestone in efforts to improve sanitation and public health.
Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF's representative in Afghanistan, said Daikundi became the country's second province to achieve the milestone this year, following Bamyan, which reached the status in 2018.
Oyewale said 627,000 people across nine districts of Daikundi now have access to sanitation services, helping improve hygiene conditions and create a healthier environment for children and families.
