Afghanistan, May 10 -- The United Nations Children's Fund said on Sunday that it had distributed educational materials to more than 239,000 children in Afghanistan's western provinces of Herat and Badghis following disruptions caused by recent earthquakes.

UNICEF said in a statement that the assistance included school supply packages for 239,100 children, while eight schools damaged in the earthquakes had also been rehabilitated and restored for students.

The organization added that around 1,300 school staff members and teachers received training as part of broader efforts aimed at improving access to education and strengthening learning conditions in affected communities.
