UNAMA Acting Chief Says Afghanistan Still Faces Major Human Rights, Security Challenges

Afghanistan, Sept. 17 -- The United Nations Security Council convened a meeting on Afghanistan on Wednesday in New York to review the country's political, humanitarian and human rights situation.

The acting head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) told the UN Security Council that the Taliban have failed to address the international community's and Afghans' most pressing concerns, warning that the country's long-term stability is increasingly threatened by the group's own policies.
