Afghanistan, July 23 -- The United Nations says more than 40 people have been killed, dozens injured and many others remain missing after devastating floods swept through parts of Afghanistan's northeastern Nuristan province.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the floods caused extensive damage to homes, public buildings and businesses, while damaged roads and difficult terrain have severely complicated search, rescue and humanitarian operations.
"More than 40 people have lost their lives, dozens have been injured and many remain missing," Dujarric told reporters, adding that search and rescue operations were continuing in the worst-affected areas.
