Afghanistan, March 18 -- Richard Bennett, the U.N. Human Rights Council's special rapporteur on Afghanistan, has called for an immediate, independent and transparent investigation into Pakistan's bombing of an addiction treatment centre in Kabul. He also said those responsible must be held accountable and that compensation should be paid to victims and their families.

Bennett's remarks came after the strike on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, which Taliban authorities say killed around 400 people.
