Afghanistan, June 15 -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step toward the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

In a post on X on Sunday night, Guterres said the agreement includes an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a framework for continued negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

He said the deal represents a significant diplomatic breakthrough and could help reduce tensions in a region that has faced months of instability and military confrontation.
