Afghanistan, July 12 -- The United States launched a new round of military strikes against Iran on Saturday after Iranian forces allegedly attacked a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), further escalating tensions in one of the world's most strategically important waterways.

In a statement issued late Saturday, July 11, CENTCOM said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the Cyprus-flagged container ship M/V GFS Galaxy while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
