Afghanistan, April 13 -- The United States has formally launched a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports, marking a major escalation after the collapse of talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad.

The US Central Command said the operation began on Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, covering maritime traffic in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea east of the Strait of Hormuz. The measures apply to vessels of all nationalities entering or leaving Iranian ports.

The move follows six weeks of conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the navy to enforce the blockade and conduct operations to clear potential naval mines.
