Afghanistan, June 1 -- The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on June 8 to review developments in Afghanistan and assess the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, the U.N. mission in the country.

UNAMA announced the upcoming meeting on Monday, noting that Security Council members will discuss the political, humanitarian and security situation in Afghanistan as well as the future of the U.N. mission.

The mission also said that UNAMA's mandate is expected to be renewed later in June, following discussions among Security Council members on the mission's role and priorities.
