Afghanistan, July 7 -- Two explosions near a hotel in Damascus where French President Emmanuel Macron was holding meetings injured 18 people on Tuesday, Syrian state media reported, highlighting persistent security challenges in Syria.

The blasts occurred shortly after Macron's convoy left the area for the presidential palace, according to Syrian media reports. A second explosion was reported near an ambulance that was already at the scene.

Syrian state media said four police officers were among those injured. Images from the site showed smoke and flames following the explosions, while emergency teams responded to the incident.
