Afghanistan, Aug. 20 -- U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that any country providing economic or financial support to Iran will face severe economic consequences, escalating Washington's pressure campaign against Tehran as efforts to end the nearly six-month conflict remain stalled.
Reuters reported on Aug. 20 that Trump announced a new phase of "economic warfare and isolation" against Iran, saying countries that allow their financial institutions, businesses, airports or government entities to provide "any type of lifeline" to Tehran could face U.S. economic measures. He did not specify which countries would be targeted or what penalties the United States would impose.
