Afghanistan, Aug. 22 -- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he considers the Strait of Hormuz to be "American territory," escalating rhetoric over the strategically vital waterway as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high.
"I see the Strait of Hormuz as American territory right now. It is American territory," Trump said while discussing the ongoing dispute with Iran over the Gulf's most important maritime passage.
Trump also suggested uncertainty over Iran's political leadership, saying he did not know "who to deal with" in the Islamic Republic and describing it as one of his biggest challenges.
