Afghanistan, June 2 -- Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jewish protesters blocked roads and railway lines across Israel on Tuesday, opposing efforts to expand mandatory military service to members of their community amid growing manpower shortages in the Israeli military.

According to media reports, demonstrations disrupted major highways and public transport networks, particularly in and around Tel Aviv, where protesters gathered to denounce compulsory military service.

Some demonstrators carried signs criticizing Zionism and the Israeli state, reflecting long-standing opposition among certain ultra-Orthodox groups to military service and state institutions.
