Afghanistan, May 17 -- Thailand has urged Iran to allow safe passage for eight Thai-flagged vessels stranded near the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating regional tensions and shipping disruptions.
According to Anadolu Agency, the request was made during a meeting between Thai Foreign Minister and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi.
Thailand expressed concern over the growing economic impact of instability in the Middle East and restrictions affecting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important energy shipping routes.
