Afghanistan, July 31 -- Spain estimated that about 49,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco by land and sea within 24 hours, in a massive and deadly surge that overwhelmed local services and prompted Spain and Morocco to reinforce security along the border.
Reuters reported on Friday that the crossings were largely brought under control after Spanish and Moroccan authorities increased security. At least 19 people died, according to Reuters, as migrants attempted to reach the enclave, with people swimming across the water and breaking through border barriers.
