Afghanistan, June 29 -- Sheikh Hasina has pledged to return to Bangladesh this year despite being sentenced to death in absentia, saying she would overcome "every obstacle and conspiracy" to return to her country.

Speaking to Indian broadcaster NDTV from exile in India, the 78-year-old former prime minister dismissed the court ruling as politically motivated and accused Bangladesh's judiciary of being used as a tool of political revenge. She said she was not afraid of death and described her planned return as an effort to restore democracy and the rule of law rather than pursue personal power.
