Afghanistan, July 7 -- Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran, a key figure in the national team's rise, died at 38 after a prolonged illness, officials said.
Zadran died while receiving treatment at a hospital in India after suffering from a critical deficiency of white blood cells, according to initial reports. His condition had reportedly improved during the early stages of treatment before deteriorating in recent days.
A left-arm fast bowler, Zadran played a central role in Afghanistan's emergence as a competitive force in international cricket and was a member of the generation that helped transform the country from an associate nation into a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
