Afghanistan, May 18 -- Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed three drones after they entered Saudi airspace from neighboring Iraq.

Saudi Defense Ministry spokesman Turki al-Maliki said the drones were launched early Sunday morning from Iraqi territory and were destroyed before reaching possible targets inside Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the Saudi Defense Ministry said the kingdom "reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place" and would take all necessary operational measures to protect its sovereignty, security and residents.
