Afghanistan, May 28 -- Sergei Shoigu, secretary of Russia's Security Council, said the deployment of United States and NATO military facilities in Afghanistan or neighboring countries would be "unacceptable," warning such a move would pose a threat to regional stability.
According to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Shoigu made the remarks during the third meeting of security council secretaries from Central Asian states and Russia, held on the sidelines of an international security forum.
Shoigu said the security situation in Afghanistan remains difficult, citing ongoing threats from drug trafficking, weapons smuggling and the continued activity of international militant groups.
