Afghanistan, Oct. 5 -- Russia is closely monitoring security developments along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border and will continue providing military and technical equipment to help Tajikistan strengthen security along the frontier, a senior Russian Foreign Ministry official said.

Alexander Sternik, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Third Department for the Commonwealth of Independent States, said Moscow's support for Tajikistan is being provided under a five-year programme adopted by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to strengthen the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border.
