Afghanistan, May 14 -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington urgently needs a clear strategy to manage its complex relationship with China, describing Beijing as America's "main geopolitical adversary" while stressing that both sides must avoid direct conflict.
In an interview with Fox News aboard the U.S. presidential aircraft, Rubio said competition between the two powers would inevitably intensify, but warned that disagreements must be managed carefully to preserve global stability and prevent war.
Rubio also pointed to rising tensions linked to Iran and the Persian Gulf, saying the United States expects China to play a more active role in persuading Tehran to reduce destabilizing actions in the region.
