Afghanistan, Aug. 16 -- Indian actress Rani Mukerji has received an honorary doctorate in literature from Australia's La Trobe University in recognition of her nearly three decades in Indian cinema and her advocacy for women, children and marginalized communities.

La Trobe University honored Mukerji for her contribution to Indian cinema and her wider social impact. In remarks following the award, Mukerji described the recognition as one of the most humbling moments of her life and reflected on how cinema had helped her pursue her ambitions since she entered the industry as a teenager.
