Afghanistan, June 21 -- Afghan women and activists gathered in Canada to protest recent arrests in Herat and demand global support for women in Afghanistan.

Afghan women, human rights advocates and members of the Afghan community gathered outside Calgary City Hall in Canada to protest recent arrests of women and girls in western Afghanistan and to call for greater international action on women's rights.

Organizers said the demonstration was held in response to the recent detention of dozens of women and girls in Herat and the violent suppression of subsequent protests.
