Afghanistan, Sept. 23 -- Afghanistan has become the only country in South Asia whose Positive Peace score has deteriorated over the past decade, according to the 2026 Positive Peace Report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). The report ranks Afghanistan 157th out of 163 countries, placing it among the countries with the world's lowest structural foundations for lasting peace.
The report says Afghanistan scored 4.19 points on the Positive Peace Index and remains in the category of countries with "very low" Positive Peace, alongside conflict-affected states including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Somalia. Denmark retained the highest global ranking.
