Afghanistan, June 2 -- The U.S. Department of Defense has barred journalists from entering the Pentagon press office, the latest move by President Donald Trump's administration to tighten media access to government institutions and information.

Joel Valdez, acting Pentagon spokesman, said the press office had been redesignated as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF), citing its use by speechwriters and officials who work with classified information.

"These personnel routinely handle classified material and require access to secure government networks," Valdez said.
