Afghanistan, Aug. 13 -- Afghanistan has reported another case of polio, highlighting the continuing challenge of eradicating a disease that remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the World Health Organization says.
Reports indicated that the case involved a 25-month-old girl in the Sarkhum area of Tirin Kot, the capital of Uruzgan province. The child developed symptoms several months ago and has suffered paralysis in her legs, they said.
Sources said the child's family had opposed polio vaccination. The claim could not be independently verified.
