Afghanistan, Aug. 15 -- Five years after the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan, the Muttaqi, foreign minister has called on Washington to reopen its embassy in Kabul and expand diplomatic and economic engagement, including investment in Afghanistan's mineral resources and infrastructure.
Amir Khan Muttaqi said in an interview with The New York Times that Afghanistan wants a new relationship with the United States based on "mutual respect," arguing that the period of war between the two countries has ended.
"We consider the chapter of war to have come to an end," Muttaqi said, calling on Washington to reopen its embassy, maintain a diplomatic presence and consider investment in mines, dams and roads.
