Afghanistan, Aug. 14 -- Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has called for the immediate and unconditional release of six women's rights activists detained in Kabul, saying that defending women and children should not be treated as a crime.
Yousafzai made the call on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in a post on X, saying the six workers had been detained after Taliban authorities raided the office of the Women and Children Legal Research Foundation in Kabul several weeks ago.
She said the activists' work was not a threat but "a vital lifeline" for women and girls in Afghanistan, and called for their immediate, safe and unconditional release.
