Afghanistan, May 31 -- Israeli forces have launched a large-scale military operation in southern Lebanon, targeting what the military described as Hezbollah infrastructure, despite a recently extended ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, said on Sunday that the operation had begun several days earlier in the Shqif Heights and Wadi al-Slouqi areas of southern Lebanon.

According to Adraee, the operation is aimed at dismantling Hezbollah positions and infrastructure that Israel says were established with Iranian support. He added that Israeli troops had crossed north of the Litani River and expanded operations against Hezbollah in areas near Nabatieh.
