Afghanistan, Aug. 10 -- Iran said Monday that reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on an end to what it calls U.S. "illegal and destructive actions" and compensation for resulting damage, adding a new condition to ongoing talks mediated by Oman.
Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, said at a press conference that the reopening of the strategic waterway would be conditional on Washington ending the actions and compensating Iran.
Baghaei also said transit fees had not been discussed in the latest round of Oman-mediated negotiations over maritime traffic through the strait.
