Afghanistan, June 11 -- Iranian media reported on Thursday that authorities have closed the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic following recent U.S. military strikes on targets in southern Iran, marking a major escalation in the confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
According to Iran's state-affiliated media, the country's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the main military command center, announced that the strategic waterway would remain closed because of the security situation in the region. Iranian military officials warned that any commercial or oil tanker attempting to pass through the strait could be targeted.
