Afghanistan, Aug. 16 -- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Oman over maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, but stressed that the negotiations are separate from any decision to fully reopen the strategic waterway.
Al Jazeera reported early Sunday, August 16, 2026, that Araghchi described the discussions with Oman as technical negotiations focused on maritime routes and the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We may reach an outcome soon, but I want to emphasize that these negotiations and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz are two separate issues," Araghchi said.
