Afghanistan, July 23 -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for closer cooperation with Iraq, saying stronger bilateral ties and greater regional coordination could help promote peace and stability amid heightened tensions across the Middle East.
Pezeshkian described the relationship between Iran and Iraq as extending beyond conventional ties between neighbouring countries, citing their shared historical, cultural, religious and civilisational links, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Thursday, July 23.
He called for expanded cooperation between the two countries in areas including trade, the economy, science, technology, culture and politics.
