Afghanistan, June 6 -- Members of Iran's national football team have received U.S. visas to participate in the FIFA World Cup, a White House official said, ending uncertainty over the squad's travel plans just days before its opening match in Los Angeles.

According to Reuters, the visas were issued around 10 days before Iran's first World Cup fixture in the United States, despite heightened tensions and ongoing hostilities between Washington and Tehran.

The development came after Abolfazl Pasandideh, Iran's ambassador to Mexico, said late Thursday that the team had not yet received the necessary visas to enter the United States.
