Afghanistan, March 20 -- Iran has claimed it struck a US F-35 stealth fighter during a combat mission over its territory, in what could mark a major moment in the ongoing war. US officials said the aircraft was damaged and forced to make an emergency landing at a US air base in the Middle East.

According to the report, the pilot survived the incident and is in stable condition. A spokesperson for US Central Command said the aircraft landed safely, while an investigation is underway into what exactly caused the damage.
