Afghanistan, June 13 -- A senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader has claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to release $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets, as negotiations between Tehran and Washington move closer to a potential agreement aimed at easing regional tensions.

According to Iran's semi-official Fars news agency, Mohsen Rezaei made the remarks on Friday, saying Trump had approved the release of the funds but was reluctant to publicly acknowledge the move.
