Afghanistan, May 14 -- India condemned an attack on an Indian-flagged commercial ship near Oman, warning against threats to civilian sailors and regional maritime security.

India on Thursday condemned an attack on an Indian-flagged commercial vessel near the coast of Oman, calling the targeting of civilian shipping and sailors in regional waters "unacceptable."

In a statement, India's Ministry of External Affairs said the vessel was targeted near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, but did not identify who carried out the attack or what type of weapon was used.

The ministry said all Indian crew members aboard the ship were safe and reiterated the need to protect freedom of navigation and international trade routes.
