Afghanistan, March 28 -- India has approved defence acquisition proposals worth about $25 billion, including transport aircraft, Russian S-400 air defence systems and combat drones, as New Delhi pushes ahead with military modernisation and replenishment after recent regional tensions. The defence ministry said the approvals were cleared on Friday.
The package also includes anti-armour ammunition, artillery systems, aerial surveillance platforms, life-extension upgrades for the air force's Sukhoi-30 fighter jets and hovercraft for the coast guard, according to the ministry. Separately, India signed a $47 million contract with Russia's JSC Rosoboronexport for Tunguska air defence missile systems.
