Afghanistan, June 23 -- A police officer was killed and another seriously wounded after a gunman armed with a rifle opened fire near the Hilton Hotel in downtown Montreal, authorities said on Monday. Police identified the slain officer as Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34.
According to police, the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers before being killed. A civilian also died during the incident. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots as security forces quickly sealed off the area, while videos shared on social media appeared to show an extended exchange of fire between officers and the attacker.
