Afghanistan, June 6 -- The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the conflict in the Middle East and soaring fuel prices have significantly disrupted humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, increasing aid delivery times from around 10 days to as long as 75 days and driving transport costs up by as much as fivefold.

In a statement, the U.N. agency said cargo trucks carrying humanitarian supplies have been forced to use longer alternative routes because key trade and transport corridors have been disrupted, delaying the delivery of food and other essential assistance to vulnerable communities.
