Afghanistan, April 20 -- Gunmen shot dead two police officers in northwest Pakistan, officials said, in the latest attack highlighting persistent security threats in the region.
Police said the officers were targeted while shopping in a local market in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The victims were identified as Rukh Niyaz and Rahmanullah, both members of a federal police unit, according to officials cited by Dawn.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers, but no group has so far claimed responsibility.
