Afghanistan, April 29 -- Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in Zahedan, killing one officer and wounding three others, according to authorities in Sistan and Baluchestan.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the provincial police information center said the injured officers were receiving medical treatment, while confirming that the slain officer was identified as Mohammadreza Nezamdoost.

Officials said an investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible, adding that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of residents in the area.
